Beautiful building. The exteriors were designed by Robert A.M. Stern (born 1939) and the interiors by Olson Kundig. The monumental entrance portal on 22nd Street reminded me of the equally if not more monumental entrance portal to the Vanderbilt family cemetery and mausoleum at the Moravian Cemetery on Staten Island. It also reminded me of the Inigo Jones Gateway at Chiswick House in London. The window pattern in the building adjacent to the portal is reminiscent of early Chicago skyscrapers. Whether intentional or not, the building serves as an appropriate symbol for our new Gilded Age.
